A Fan-Operated Science Fiction and Fantasy Literary and Filk Convention in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area

FenCon News and Notes

Genesis Women's Shelter logo

We love the fen: FenCon's designated charity for FenCon VI was the Genesis Women's Shelter of Dallas, an organization providing quality safety and shelter to battered women and their children in the greater Dallas area. With your purchase of the special Kurt Miller art print and your generous bidding in our charity auction, you helped us raise more than $2500 for this worthy charity.

STARFLEET Region 3 logo

Hailing frequencies: FenCon VI was proud to serve as the host site for the 2009 Starfleet Region Three Summit, a gathering of Star Trek fans from across Texas and Louisiana. We hope everybody enjoyed the extra Trek-flavored programming and that many of the Starfleet members will return in 2010.

FenCon VI in review: What a weekend! Our highest attendance yet. Incredible guests and lots of fun. Thank you to all who attended. Also thanks to the convention staff, volunteers, and hotel folks who made it work. (Need a flashback? Check out the FenCon VI Archive website.) Here are some comments from our guests:

Toastmaster Paul Cornell's report: "It's a slightly unusual mix for a convention: SF; music; science (with NASA guys up from Houston); media. And they take it all equally seriously. It works. And they've got a record number of pre-registrations for next year, so the party's going to be even bigger next time out. I may well pop back just for the fun of it."

Music Guest of Honor Carla Ulbrich: "FenCon is an awesome convention. if you've never been to a science fiction or filk convention, this should be your first."

Angeline Hawkes: "FenCon absolutely rocked this year! Thank you to everyone who made it such an awesome experience! Was fantastic seeing everyone again!"

Lee Killough: "Thanks FenCon. I had a great weekend...enjoyable panels with appreciative audiences, sold some books, signed autographs, connected with friends, met new people. Exactly what should happen at a con!"

Stephen Patrick: "Thanks to everyone for a great time. The panels were a blast, the events were terrific and, as always, it's just plain awesome to get to see everyone every year. Here's looking at 2010."

Kathryn Sullivan: "Thanks, FenCon! I had a great time - lots of good panels and discussions, was able to visit with friends old and new and found good food in the con suite. Thank you!"

Shannna Swendson did a "rundown on the fun that was FenCon"
